Contrary to popular belief, you actually CAN eat donuts and still reach your fitness goals.  I know that may be hard to trust, but the reason that @powher.fit is so successful for so many people is because of the sustainability on the nutrition side.  We do not cut out any food groups or specific foods whatsoever.  Why?  Because if I tell you that you can’t have something, then you’re only going to want to eat it that much more!  Taking a balanced approach to nutrition and giving our members their own food freedom is what makes us at www.PowHer.fit different from other programs.

So HOW can I consume the *said* donuts and still reach my fitness goals?  Well for starters, you’ll want to eat only 1 donut and not the entire half dozen or full dozen – duh!

DO NUT forget your PROTEIN FIRST! Chug a protein shake  BEFORE you reach for a Maple Long John to ensure you don’t go overboard. Not only will the water in the shake fill you up quickly, but protein is the most immediately satiating macronutrient…which means it will make you full FASTER than any of the others (carbs and/or fats). By filling your belly with protein and water, you’re less likely to reach for more than one!

I know this may seem scary to truly think of implementing a donut into your fitness routine, but RELAX and just trust me! Eating a donut does NOT give you an instantaneous donut ring around your waist, nor does it make you a BAD or UNHEALTHY person. Keep in mind: The goal is to find a balanced and sustainable nutrition plan that you can do FOR LIFE!! It is NOT to constantly feel like you are “crash dieting” so hard you are perpetually deprived and unhappy. DEPRIVATION leads to BINGING…BINGING leads to YO-YO DIETING. Time to break the cycle. So take a chill pill, get that donut ready, and enjoy because life is too short!

Another tip when eating your scrumptious donut is to eat it SLOWLY.  The faster you consume the first donut, the more likely you’ll be to reach for another.  Savor every bite, take your time and enjoy your donut!

Now can you make this a daily occurrence?  I guess if it fits in your macros (figured up personally for you at www.powher.fit), technically the answer would be yes.  However, to avoid over-doing it or creating more sugar cravings, I would pick one day (maybe 2) a week to make it your donut treat day. I suggest starting only 1-2 days a week to not fall off a slippery slope and to focus on more whole & nutritious foods rather than always consuming processed foods (like the donut.). When the majority of your diet comes from clean food sources, you’re less likely to crave and possibly binge on all the sugar-filled processed foods.

When should you eat your donut?  Honestly I’m not super big on the timing of the foods I eat, nor do I intermittent fast anymore, but I would suggest the morning or after a workout.  The morning will give you all day to get in a workout and burn off the energy from your donut, while consuming a protein shake and a donut after a workout can help your muscles to fuel up in a good way!

So do I eat donuts?  The answer is yes.  Remember the goal is to enjoy your lifestyle change (rather than a quick fix diet that is not sustainable) and when treating yourself occasionally let go of any shame, guilt or remorse caused by the food you eat.  I would rather a client over-indulge occasionally guilt free than beat herself up emotionally.  The shame, guilt and remorse can do way more harm to your overall health than grabbing a 2nd donut ever could.

If you want to learn more about food freedom, be sure to check out the members-only nutrition overview when you login at www.powher.fit.  We do offer one free home workout and one free gym workout to potential members, but our nutrition overview is for our paying members only.  We have some exciting new things coming to PowHer.fit in 2021 in the nutrition department, and I can’t wait to share more with you all!

Until then, schedule yourself a donut treat day.  You deserve it!
